Hi everyone,

Just wondering if any of you use a Hans device in your mini cup? If so, which model do you use? thanks, Rob

There was a thread about that here somewhere, but I couldnt find it.

Some of the kids wear them. For adults its a lot harder because of the reclined angle for some of the taller guys, the HANS likely will not fit most adults, but smaller adults could probably wear one. I think HANS makes them in a couple different angle designs so id recommend the greatest angle possible.

Other options adults use are Karting Collars, hutchens device, and the G-Force helmet restraint.

I have tried the HANS divice on in the car, and it did not work good. I am not overly big, but I use the karting neck collar, I could get you one if you wanted one, other wise they are made by kartwear, and you can get them mostly anywhere, ebay, internet karting stores, and some racing stores.

I my self do not use one, but my large adults in my area use them and say they dont feel any discomfort. I dont know which model, but i do know that most places that sell them have a model labeled for minicups. I am pretty sure they use a model 40. IF you call the place your ordering from they will tell you. I myself use a hutchens. It works alright, just a little hard to get strapped in the car with it on.

FYI, I was able to test a HANS device in the minicup car this past weekend, but bear in mind I am about 6'01" and I was in Naples' car, but the seat seemed to fit okay, and I did not have a helmet on.

I tested the 20 degree device and it wasnt even close, the distributors took a look and agreed it would not work. they doubted the 30 degree model would even work. There is a 40 degree model they said might work, however, they only make that in their most expensive version since the clientele are usually INDY car drivers for that model. We may get a chance next month to test the 40 degree model. Ill keep you informed.

As far as others who use the device, take 2 things into consideration, first the size of that driver, and second comfort doesnt always mean secure. Just because it feels okay may not mean it is correctly used!

Thats a good point. The some of the teams i am getting my information are crew and family of ARCA racer Frank Kimmel which takes a very high standard on safety. They held a special safety class with our series to help improve the belts, seats, helmets, and head and neck restraints. So those are being use right, but i am sure that there are many that are not. Another point i want to bring up. According to them the karting neck bands actually does more harm than good. They make the neck stretch during a wreck.
